ORLEN delivers record operational performance in 2024

In 2024, the ORLEN Group delivered record operational performance, marked by the highest levels of electricity generation from gas and renewable sources in its history, alongside its strongest natural gas production to date. The volume of low- and zero-emission energy generated during the year would have been sufficient to meet the annual demand of nearly half of all Polish households. This performance was supported by a more than 66% year-on-year increase in installed capacity across photovoltaic and wind assets, as well as the commencement of production from newly developed gas fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The Energy and Gas segments together accounted for nearly 80% of the Group’s EBITDA, which totalled PLN 35.5 billion before impairment charges. The Management Board has recommended a record dividend of PLN 6 per share for the 2024 financial year.

ORLEN secures record-breaking EIB financing to drive energy transition

ORLEN has signed a third financing agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support the expansion of its electricity distribution network. The new PLN 1.7 billion agreement brings the total funding secured from the EIB to PLN 3.5 billion, making it the largest financial support package the Bank has granted in Poland. The funds will be invested by Energa Operator, an ORLEN Group company, to enhance the security and efficiency of electricity supplies and increase the potential for integrating renewable energy sources.

Major Modernisation Programme for Poland’s Energy Networks

Energa Operator, a member of the ORLEN Group, has secured above PLN 7,5 billion from the National Recovery Plan to fund the largest power grid modernisation and digitalisation initiative in the company’s history, covering northern and central Poland. The project involves upgrading and constructing a total of 21,000 kilometres of power lines, which will enhance the country’s energy security and ultimately lower energy costs for end-users. A key component of this initiative is the planned integration of 9 GW of renewable energy sources, characterised by low variable production costs, along with energy storage facilities. The programme will also enable 200,000 new prosumers to connect to the grid. The total value of the programme, extending through 2035, amounts to PLN 40 billion.

ORLEN Group to invest PLN 3.5 billion in strategic programme to upgrade electricity distribution network

The ORLEN Group will implement a strategic investment program in the field of energy distribution networks, increasing the security and efficiency of electricity supplies in northern and central Poland. Financing for the program will be provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), which has approved a PLN 3.5 billion loan to ORLEN to support the strategic development of its electricity distribution infrastructure, including renewable energy (RES) connections, network upgrades, and investments in smart grid technology. This EIB financing, offered on preferential terms compared to commercial banks, will significantly accelerate the implementation of plans in this area. The initial financing agreement signed is valued at PLN 900 million. The programme will be implemented by Energa Operator.

Baltic Power wind farm completes first onshore connection

In the Lubiatowo area, the first of four directional drills under the coastline, beach, and seabed has been successfully completed, with no direct impact on areas of high ecological value. This phase of the project paves the way for connecting the Baltic Power offshore wind farm to its onshore substation. The 1.4 km tunnel will house power transmission cables. The drilling was conducted using HDD (horizontal directional drilling) technology.

Mažeikiai refinery to generate renewable energy

The Mažeikiai refinery, part of the ORLEN Group, is set to make a significant investment in advanced, environmentally sustainable solar photovoltaic (PV) technology. A 42.2 MWp solar PV farm will be installed on the refinery’s premises, marking a crucial initiative to reduce its carbon emissions into the atmosphere. Valued at approximately PLN 1.15 billion, the transaction stands out as one the largest deals in terms of installed capacity made in recent years within the Polish renewable energy sector. Upon completion, this acquisition will elevate the ORLEN Group’s renewable generation capacity by nearly 30%. Acquired farms are among the most advanced in the country, collectively generating around 400 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power nearly 182 thousand households.
